Global semiconductor company MediaTek and tech giant NVIDIA have joined forces to drive the advancement of next-generation connected cars worldwide. The partnership aims to develop a comprehensive suite of in-vehicle AI cabin solutions for the upcoming era of software-defined vehicles.
MediaTek will spearhead the creation of a new line of System-on-Chip (SoC) that seamlessly integrates with NVIDIA’s GPU and AI software technologies. This collective system will unlock novel user experiences, enhanced safety measures, and innovative connected services across all car categories, from luxury to mainstream.
Within the automotive SoCs developed by MediaTek, a new NVIDIA GPU chiplet and NVIDIA AI and graphics intellectual property (IP) will be incorporated. The chiplets will be connected using an ultra-fast and coherent chiplet connection technique. MediaTek’s smart cabin solutions will harness the power of NVIDIA’s DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA, and TensorRT software technologies, enabling a wide range of AI-driven cabin and cockpit capabilities supported by cutting-edge graphics, AI, safety, and security features.
At the core of the connected automobile ecosystem, MediaTek’s newly developed Dimensity Auto platform will play a pivotal role. This automotive system seamlessly integrates high-performance processing, advanced artificial intelligence, a wide array of features, inherent energy efficiency, and state-of-the-art networking capabilities. By leveraging NVIDIA’s expertise in AI, cloud, graphics technology, and software, the platform will deliver a more intelligent in-vehicle experience.
It is evident that your next car is likely to surpass the intelligence of your smartphone, with some models already outpacing certain smartphones and computers. These connected cars communicate with our devices and boast larger displays than our iPads and laptops. In essence, the connected car ecosystem is progressing at a remarkable pace.
According to Techarc’s recent report on Electric Vehicles, the connected car ecosystem and the promise of smarter vehicles have garnered significant consumer interest. The data reveals that 68% of the survey respondents consider this as their second most compelling reason to purchase an electric vehicle (EV). Access to cutting-edge technology integrated into EVs enhances comfort, safety, and communication, driving consumer adoption.
