The market was led by the homegrown brand Lumio, which sold 3 out of every 4 Google TV-certified projectors during the year

Gurugram/Srinagar, April 10: Techarc released the India Google Projector Market Update 2025. The report highlights a promising new frontier in the Indian consumer electronics landscape, valuing the niche Google projector segment at over ₹77 crore or 34% of the total projector market for the 2025 calendar year.

The Rise of True Google Projectors

The Google projector category is rapidly establishing a significant footprint, now accounting for more than 10% of the aggregate projector market. Techarc defines True Google Projectors as devices essentially acting as a Smart TV in a box, featuring a licensed built-in Google TV operating system, integrated OTT apps, and native Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity.

The report explicitly excludes ‘workaround’ solutions, such as traditional projectors relying on external HDMI dongles or those utilising fragmented proprietary Linux-based systems. This standardisation toward Google-based ecosystems mirrors the historical evolution of the Smart TV market in India.

The New age of Make in India

According to Techarc, categories such as Google projectors are emerging and progressing in alignment with future consumers. These categories offer a promising strategy to pioneer in such categories and establish a defensible market lead at an early stage. Startups and established players wanting to make a mark in electronics in India could follow the Lumio strategy.

A standout finding of the 2025 update is the overwhelming success of domestic manufacturing. In its first year of full-scale launch, 73% of Google projectors sold in India were locally manufactured. This deviates from typical smart gadget trajectories, where OEMs often rely on imports for the first 5–10 years to minimize initial investment.

Homegrown pioneer Lumio has been instrumental in this shift, positioning India as a significant producer for domestic demand and creating a competitive advantage for future global exports.

Competitive Landscape and Unit Sales

This category is primarily led by new brands, while traditional projector brands are exploring it:

  • Lumio: The clear market leader with a 73.3% volume share. Its success is driven primarily by two models: the Arc 5 and the Arc 7, with arc 5 being the most compelling proposition.
  • BenQ: A distant second with a 12.9% share. Despite offering a wider range of six models, such as the GV50 and GP520, it is yet to take off.
  • Play: Secured the third spot with a 6.4% share, specialising in high-performance 4K and 3D Google Projectors.
  • Others: XGIMI (6.2%), Epson (0.9%), and Xming (0.3%) make up the remainder of the six-player market.

Consumer Acceptance and Satisfaction

User satisfaction largely mirrors market volume. Lumio leads with an average customer rating of 4.6, followed by Play at 4.4. Both brands sit above the category benchmark of 4.3 out of 5.0. Conversely, established IT hardware players like BenQ and Xming scored slightly below the threshold at 4.2

Future Outlook: A ₹580 Crore Opportunity

Techarc forecasts healthy growth over the next five years, driven by the proliferation of high-speed broadband, the binge-watching OTT culture, and a growing desire to bring your own cinema among Gen-Z for personal home entertainment. Another trend of hosting live events, such as sports, music, etc. is emerging across the country.

While the market is presently small compared to established smart devices, it offers immense potential. Techarc estimates the market value will grow by more than 50% annually, crossing ₹580 crore by 2030, with unit sales projected to exceed 1.38 lakh units
