I firmly believe that we must propel the ‘Make-in-India’ initiative to success through strategic partnerships with select global technology companies. These partnerships should serve as catalysts for this transformative mission, propelling us closer to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Lenovo stands as a formidable contender that should be strategically engaged by the government for several compelling reasons. As a technology company and a provider of consumer technology solutions, Lenovo is perfectly suited to the Indian market. Its comprehensive portfolio aligns seamlessly with the aspirations of our nation to become a hub of technology-driven innovations with a holistic approach.
Furthermore, Lenovo’s consumer technology brand offers a diverse range of products that cater to the aspirations of India’s diverse demographic dividend.
The reason I advocate for Lenovo is its unwavering commitment to India and its innovative ‘LIVE’ approach towards the Make in India initiative.

With the launch of “LIVE,” Lenovo directly addresses the gaps that the nation is attempting to fill through programs and initiatives such as “Make in India,” “Vocal4Local,” and “Viksit Bharat @ 2047.” Simultaneously, Lenovo possesses the capability to cater to the diverse aspirational consumers of India who seek experiences through technology.
Attending the Lenovo Tech World ’25, India edition held in Mumbai, I gained a comprehensive understanding of why Lenovo deserves to be a prominent technology anchor of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
Let me elucidate what I mean by “LIVE.”
Lenovo: A committed technology giant – Lenovo is not a small name in the technology domain. It has over 13 million customers across various products in India. Additionally, it employs more than 14,000 individuals within the country. This year, Lenovo celebrates its 20th anniversary, marking a significant milestone. Reflecting on Lenovo’s evolution in India, it is evident that its intentions from the outset have been long-term and enduring. Lenovo stands among the few technology companies that have endeavored to develop the entire value chain within the country. This achievement is remarkable considering that the government was not explicitly vocal about encouraging technology companies to develop their value chains domestically or introduce a policy framework that would facilitate such endeavors.

Lenovo has been manufacturing in India for the past two decades at its Puducherry plant, which was established alongside the company’s operations in India. In fiscal year 2024, Lenovo generated over 18,000 crores worth of products within India. Motorola, Lenovo’s smartphone division, exports smartphones from India. Today, Lenovo, beyond selling products in India, operates a factory, R&D center, and a CoE. It is also worth noting its extensive pan-India distribution network, which employs a combination of retail strategies.
Achieving such credentials is not an overnight feat. These accomplishments are not built on fleeting moments. Furthermore, developing a company holistically within a country underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to that nation, specifically India.
Innovation: Bringing innovation value chain to India – India seeks technology partners who enhance its reputation and position it as a technology leader. This cannot be achieved if foreign technology companies establish operations in India, discard obsolete technologies, and utilize India as a value chain for eventual technology obsolescence. Lenovo stands out in its approach towards India.
Lenovo has consistently introduced cutting-edge innovations to India and has positioned it as a core hub for its research and development activities. For instance, in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), Lenovo has been a pioneer in introducing AI devices for Indian consumers and establishing a center of excellence in AI. Additionally, it has commenced manufacturing AI servers in India. With its Smart AI for all vision, Lenovo is making tangible contributions to India’s development. We require partners like Lenovo who can introduce the latest technologies to India and contribute to its further growth.
Versatility: Range to commensurate India’s demographic dividend and socio-cultural diversity – India possesses a unique demographic dividend and socio-cultural diversity. It is home to the world’s wealthiest billionaires, including numerous new additions each year. This influx of affluent individuals has driven the demand for luxury and ultra-luxury products across various categories, including electronics. Simultaneously, a vast majority of the population struggles to meet their basic needs. However, there is also a growing and thriving middle class brimming with energy and aspirations.
All stakeholders, regardless of their socioeconomic status, are directly or indirectly beneficiaries of technology and the digital revolution catalyzed by emerging technologies. Technology has become an indispensable resource in India, and its accessibility is paramount. Lenovo possesses the unique capability to provide a comprehensive technology stack, encompassing data center infrastructure and end-user devices, across a diverse range of price points. This versatility enables consumers from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds to access technology, while simultaneously empowering enterprises to develop innovative services and products at affordable prices. This unparalleled versatility sets Lenovo apart from its competitors.
Experiences: Delighted consumers – In India, consumers seek exceptional experiences. These experiences cannot be achieved through conventional offerings. Recognizing this demand, Lenovo has curated a portfolio of devices designed to deliver seamless and immersive experiences. Whether it’s laptops, mobiles, gaming handhelds, or even wearable glasses, Lenovo offers a comprehensive range of options to define these experiences. In the mobile segment, Lenovo has introduced various form factors, including the innovative flip form factor. In laptops, it has introduced dual-display touch laptops that can be utilized in multiple orientations, not only creating novel use cases but also elevating the user experience. Lenovo also showcased a rollable laptop and a transparent display laptop during the event. These devices will undoubtedly enhance the consumer experience as they gain traction in the Indian market.
This technology partner aligns perfectly with our vision for Viksit Bharat @ 2047. Their commitment to the mission is paramount, and Lenovo has several elements that demonstrate their dedication. We seek partners who can deepen our involvement in the value chain by increasing our participation in R&D and fostering innovation. Lenovo possesses the necessary capabilities to achieve this.
Our consumers demand versatility due to the diverse socio-economic fabric of our country. At the same time, they aspire to delightful experiences that meet their aspirations. Lenovo offers a comprehensive portfolio that caters to both these needs.
Lenovo strikes the ideal balance by seamlessly integrating the value chain and the consumer side of the market. This alignment fosters innovation, versatility, and exceptional experiences. This unique positioning positions Lenovo as our indispensable partner in our journey towards a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.
